Happy New Year!

We hope you've had an enjoyable Christmas time and we wish you a very happy and healthy 2026!

We have enjoyed some lovely weather over recent weeks and taken the opportunity to get out walking and make the most of the dry and sunny days after what seems like a very long wet spell.

We ventured down to the Lizard Peninsula for a circular walk from the most southerly point in Cornwall around to Kynance Cove.  Even in winter,  it's a beautiful stretch of coastline with tiny fishing villages, secluded coves and stunning sea views.  It was even warm enough to sit on the beach at Kynance to eat our packed lunch and watch the tide come in over the serpentine pebbles.

The Lizard is a definite destination rather than somewhere you'd pass through due to it's location, but it's definitely worth the trip with its rugged rocks and cliffs, plentiful options for walking and exploring and of course the home of Ann's Pasties and Roskilly's Ice cream!

Of course I can't mention winter walks without including our beloved local beach at Lelant, Porthkidney.  It's within walking distance of the farm and you can complete a nice circular from here in around 2 hours - but it may take longer as you will no doubt want to stop and admire the view across the bay towards Godrevy Lighthouse, and maybe treasure hunt in the sand for shells!  It's a vast beach when the tide is out, and it doesn't get that busy even in the summer as there are no facilities there but a great place for a good walk and a picnic!

So of course, after having a nice break for the festive season, we have to get back to the building site that is the cottages!  We have got stuck back into it this week and finished taking down the chimney breast wall downstairs in Grooms Cottage.  We're trying to clear away as we go and its good to see the space opening up and we can start to imagine the kitchen/dining area that this will become.  We do have a bit of a 'Stonehenge' going on there at the moment - there are some mighty pieces of granite to get out at some point!  Access in and out is a bit tight but we've managed to get the medium slabs out with a sack trolley and some well placed homemade ramps to help negotiate the door thresholds.  As and when the porch is taken down, we'll be able to get those monster pieces out much more easily, so they'll have to stay where they are for the time!

So, we've started 2026 as we mean to go on, ticking off one task at a time rather than getting overwhelmed with everything that has yet to be done and decided on.  It will be lovely when things start getting 'put back' but for the moment it is more demolishing...now where's my crowbar?!

Best wishes until next time...

Tanya and Jason
